Marilù has reached her destination, but the journey continues: goodbye, incredible woman!

May 14, 2022 – “My dear Ninetta, it takes a lot, too much courage to die in May” (F. De Andrè, Italian singer). These lines resonate in my mind, as I find myself publishing a post that I never wanted to write, even though in my heart I knew this moment would come… The crew of Seimetri.it has shrunk, losing the element thanks to which the whole project was able to be born, the person who gave me the strength to make a dream come true: Marilù reached the end of the splendid journey she wanted to undertake in these long years with me.

A cruel, ugly disease took it away after almost a year of battles. A year in which Marilù and I first believed and then hoped to be able to win. But ovarian cancer, which grew without showing any symptoms until it manifested itself in all of its violence at the end of May last year, finally prevailed.

Marilù never wanted to talk about her illness in public: she shared it with me and a few other close relatives and close friends, confident and optimistic to the last. A strong character, an example for all those who were close to her, me first: without her strength I would have collapsed. The disease won on Thursday, May 12, leaving me and Yoda dismayed, as well as relatives, friends, acquaintances, contacts: hundreds of people who showed me closeness and affection in these difficult moments.

Only the friends of Seimetri.it remained to be warned. So, here I am. However, even in such a sad moment, I want to send you a positive message: despite everything, life continues. Destiny can kick us even hard, unexpectedly, trying to kill our dreams. But our dreams do not go out: they can fade, and then come back to light up and transform themselves.

Here, then, that today I imagine a renewed travel project in which to discover places, people, traditions, cultures. It will be a slow stroll to savor life in all its nuances. Waiting for fate to decide, mocking or magnanimous, the course of our lives. We will miss Marilù infinitely, but we will carry her memory on the roads of the world.
