Mergozzo and its lake are a delightful Piedmontese town west of Lake Maggiore, right where the Sempione state road deviates towards Domodossola. The small village (just over 2,000 inhabitants) overlooks a charming lake where the use of motor boats is prohibited, which makes this place truly special.
The narrow streets of the historic center do not offer adequate parking spaces for recreational vehicles, but along the road leading to the center, the Municipality has set up a rest area that can accommodate up to 10 motorhomes. Nothing in particular: it is only a portion of paid parking reserved for our vehicles. The area is paved and in the sun and therefore can hardly be considered more than a temporary stop. Among other things, it is also close to the road, the church and some chicken coops: noise is guaranteed. But it is functional for visiting the town and its surroundings.
For €10 every 24 hours you can park (do not camp: it is forbidden to open awnings or use tables and chairs outside) and have access to electricity (€5), but available for only 4 vehicles. The loading and unloading area has ample space for maneuvers, even if the grid is quite small and of old design. For the cassette toilet there is a special drain. There is only one water tap and separate collection does not include glass. Payment must be made in one of the nearby public places (Bar King, via Sempione 40 – Newspaper and tobacco shop, via Sempione 25 and Bar Roma, via Sempione 9).
Here you can read our yardstick for rest areas rates.
