November 19, 2020 – Finding a good restaurant, enjoying an excellent dinner, accompanying the food with a couple of glasses of good wine and then maybe indulging in coffee and its “killer”… Who has never done it? Who doesn’t appreciate a food and wine evening from time to time? The problem lies in that couple of glasses of good wine and the final bitterness, which for many may already represent the maximum alcohol level allowed for driving. So, those who have a head limit themselves to or completely avoid drinking, while reducing the pleasure of the evening. But we campers have one more weapon: the house in tow. The only difficulty is finding a restaurant near which to park and then spend the night there. It is not always easy.
Our friend Luca Calmasini had the right idea: to find restaurateurs who have space and availability to accommodate campers after dinner. Thus, one glass too many is no longer an obstacle to a magnificent evening dedicated to taste. “I have been a camper for twenty years,” writes Luca, “and in my travels I have often stopped at restaurants to taste our good food, and then sleep in their parking lot. Thus was born the idea of creating a closer link between the world of catering, an example of Italian excellence, and campers, who have made a philosophy of life about living while traveling, and who want to combine naturalistic treasures with good food, architectural and cultural heritage of our land“.
The initiative is called CampeRistorante, and is presented to the public through a website and a Facebook group, with which to follow the latest news. This is how the project is described: “CampeRistorante offers a choice of places where you can find pleasant refreshment and a welcome worthy of the Italian style. Reaching the destination can be a long journey through our peninsula. Stopping in the evening to rest and enjoy Italian cuisine makes the journey more enjoyable. If the welcome also means being able to sleep one night before resuming the journey, then the objective of interacting with the local economy, for the itinerant tourist, will be achieved“.
Among other things, in the Italian regions where this is possible, using the motorhome to get a take-away dinner and eat it still hot, just outside the restaurant, can also be an idea to support restaurant friends, who in this period particular are suffering more than other categories. Although still in its initial phase and born with an amateur spirit, CampeRistorante has the ambition to become something more structured: making it grow also depends on us.
